South Korea: North Korea ‘expressing a will for complete denuclearization’

North Korea wants to see the Korean Peninsula’s “complete denuclearization,” according to South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

“North Korea is expressing a will for a complete denuclearization,” said Moon, as reported by Reuters.

{mosads}The news outlet also reported that Moon said Pyongyang is not pushing for the United States to remove its troops from South Korea.

The comments from South Korea’s president come ahead of a proposed meeting between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which would be the first for a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader.

Trump on Wednesday expressed optimism about the meeting, but said he won’t go through with it if he does not believe it will be “successful.”

“If I think that it’s a meeting that’s not going to be fruitful, I won’t go. If the meeting when I’m there is not fruitful, I will respectfully leave,” Trump said during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo met with Kim over the Easter holiday. The two discussed the three Americans currently held in North Korea, according to The Associated Press.
