Disney park in Shanghai reopens

The Shanghai Disneyland reopened Monday with a number of notable restrictions in place amid coronavirus concerns.

The Chinese location is the first Disney park to reopen with limited visitors allowed, The Associated Press reported

The park is requiring visitors to wear masks and checking for fevers, according to the newswire.

“We hope that today’s reopening serves as a beacon of light across the globe, providing hope and inspiration to everyone,” the president of Shanghai Disney Resort, Joe Schott, told reporters, according to AP.

Shanghai Disneyland closed in January, and the company’s locations in the U.S. and Europe followed with closures in March.

The park welcomed more than 10 million guests in the first year after it opened in 2016, according to Reuters. It will now restrict visitors to 20 percent of its daily capacity, about 16,000 people, the newswire reported.

In addition to limiting capacity, the park will change some of its programming including getting rid of parade and fireworks shows as well as shutting interactive children’s play areas and indoor live theater shows, according to Reuters.
