China cuts more than two minutes from ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to censor gay content

China has cut more than two minutes out of Oscar-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody” in an effort to censor out LGBT content, according to CNN.

Several scenes throughout the movie were cut in the Chinese version, which opened in the country over the weekend.

China has strict censorship laws that as of 2016 include banning the portrayal of “abnormal sexual behavior,” CNN reported.

{mosads}The film follows the career of British rock band Queen and its frontman, Freddie Mercury, who came out as gay as an adult.

Scenes deleted for the Chinese market include Mercury, played by Rami Malek, kissing another man in the film and any instances where the word “gay” is used.

Mercury’s discussion of his sexuality with a female partner is also cut.

While homosexuality was removed from China’s list of mental disorders in 2001, the country still heavily sensors the depiction of it in across all media, CNN reported.
