Hong Kong Disneyland reopens for second time as COVID-19 cases near zero

Hong Kong Disneyland reopened on Friday for the second time this year after COVID-19 case counts neared zero in the semi-autonomous city.

The theme park was first shut down in January following the coronavirus outbreak in China. It reopened on June 18 but closed again on July 15 after an uptick in cases, The Associated Press reported.

The most recent reopening was accompanied by enforcement of social distancing on park property, as well as increased cleaning and disinfecting in areas with large crowds.

Hong Kong reported seven new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the city’s total to 5,056 cases. There have been 104 deaths from the virus since the outbreak began, according to China’s National Health Commission.

CNBC reported earlier this week that the Hong Kong park would temporarily be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays after it reopens.

Disney World in Orlando, Fla., reopened with pandemic safety measures in July, but the company’s two parks in California remain closed due to coronavirus concerns.
