Poll shows comedian who plays TV president likely to win Ukrainian presidential election
A comedian who plays a president on television has a commanding lead in the Ukrainian presidential race, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) survey found that 72.2 percent of respondents who plan to vote said they will pick Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to Kyiv Post.
{mosads}Only 25.4 percent of respondents said they would be voting for incumbent Petro Poroshenko. Another 2.4 percent said they plan to spoil their ballot.
Zelenskiy, who has no previous political experience, won nearly twice as many votes as Poroshenko in the first-round elections, which were held March 31.
A run-off between the two will take place on Sunday.
KIIS polled 2,004 Ukrainians from April 9-14. Fifty-four percent of those polled said they would definitely vote in the run-off election, while another 19 percent said they are likely to do so.
Poroshenko, a chocolate magnate, has several allegations of corruption against him.
