Another UK Cabinet secretary resigns over Brexit

British House of Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom resigned on Wednesday in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Theresa May .

“I no longer believe that our approach will deliver on the referendum result,” she wrote, referring to Brexit. {mosads}

She added she does not believe “the UK would be a truly sovereign United Kingdom through the deal that is now proposed” and that holding second referendum would be “dangerously divisive.”

“It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from the Government,” Leadsom tweeted alongside a copy of the letter.

Leadsom’s resignation comes as members of Theresa May’s Conservative Party have criticized May’s latest Brexit attempt, according to the BBC.

The BBC reports that she is the 36th minister to resign under May, with 21 of the resignations relating to Brexit. {mosads}

Leadsom’s resignation comes one day before the UK will vote in the European Parliament elections.

British voters chose to exit the European Union in a referendum in 2016. Since then, the country’s government has attempted to put together a plan to leave the continent’s governing body that can clear the country’s Parliament, but has been unable to do so.
