Four dead in knife attack at Paris police headquarters

A man employed by the police in Paris attacked the police headquarters Thursday with a knife, killing four and injuring others.

The four dead included at least one officer in the headquarters located on the Île de la Cité, an island in the middle of the city. CNN reported the city is on lockdown.

{mosads}The suspect, an administrative officer for the police, was shot dead and the motive is unknown, CNN reported.

Loïc Travers, the secretary of the National Police Alliance for the Ile-de-France, told the French outlet BFM TV that the suspect “has been with us for over 20 years.”

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said in a translated tweet that “several police officers have lost their lives.”

She posted on Twitter in French that “Paris cries for its own this afternoon after this terrible attack at the @prefpolice. Heavy casualties, several police officers lost their lives.”

President Emmanuel Macron also reported to the island to “show his support and solidarity to all the staff,” according to CNN.
