Pompeo alerted Lebanon to covert Hezbollah missile factory: report
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Lebanese officials Hezbollah and Iran have a covert factory manufacturing precision missiles within the country, according to Axios.
Pompeo reportedly received the information from Israeli intelligence, which is increasingly concerned about Hezbollah’s manufacturing of missiles, according to the site.
{mosads}After receiving the intelligence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu two weeks ago, Pompeo traveled to Beirut and met with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, telling him the facility could pose a threat to Lebanese security and increase the risk of escalation with Israel, according to Axios.
The Justice Department has also announced steps to crack down on Hezbollah. Then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in 2018 that the DOJ had created a new Transnational Organized Crime Task Force to target the finances of transnational organized crime enterprises including Hezbollah and Central American drug cartels.
The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
