Russia denies having compromising information on Trump

Russia on Wednesday denied that it had compromising information on President-elect Donald Trump.

“The Kremlin has no compromising dossier on Mr. Trump, such information is not consistent with reality and is nothing but an absolute fantasy,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said at a regular news briefing, according to The New York Times.

“There are people who foment this hysteria, who move heaven and earth to keep up this ‘witch hunt,’” Peskov said. “By the way, this is how Mr. Trump characterized this fabrication.”

{mosads}Peskov said the report with unverified claims was “pulp fiction” meant to hurt the relations between Russia and the U.S.

Reports surfaced a day earlier saying intelligence officials had briefed the president-elect on a dossier of unverified material alleging the Russia government had damaging information on him.

The 35-page document, made up of a collection of memos filled with explosive claims about Trump’s relationship to Russia, has reportedly been circulating among journalists and officials for at least a few weeks.

But the sourcing on the documents is unclear and likely unverifiable. CNN reported that the information was based primarily on memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative intended as opposition research into Trump.

After news of the report surfaced, Trump quickly disputed it.

“FAKE NEWS — A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!” he tweeted Tuesday night.
