Nigel Farage ‘person of interest’ in Russia probe: report

Former United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage has been named a person of interest in the federal investigation into potential ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russian election meddling, according to The Guardian.

The anti-establishment British politician has not been accused of a crime nor is he a target of the FBI probe, the newspaper reported.

Sources told The Guardian that Farage’s relationships with people at the center of the investigation makes him subject to investigators’ scrutiny.

The former UKIP leader has ties to people within the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Farage was a vocal backer of then-candidate Trump and appeared on the campaign trail with him multiple times. Trump, meanwhile, has supported Farage, most notably during last year’s Brexit campaign.

The British politician in March also visited Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where the WikiLeaks founder has been staying since 2012. 

WikiLeaks released a series of documents during campaign of then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
