Trump to nominate counterterrorism coordinator
President Trump plans to nominate former Homeland Security official Nathan Sales as the State Department’s coordinator for counterterrorism, the White House said Friday evening.
Sales, who teaches on national security and counterterrorism at Syracuse University, previously served as deputy assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Homeland Security and as senior counsel in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Policy.

The State Department counterterrorism coordinator position was among a number of open senior posts for which the Trump administration had not put forward a nominee.
Trump has emphasized stepped up security measures following deadly attacks in the United Kingdom this year, most recently after attacks on and near the London Bridge last weekend.
