Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday said President Trump’s recent tweets and comments about North Korea are “dangerous” and show “poor judgment.”
“I think it shows really poor judgment for the president to perform the way he does. Particularly with the tweets, but not just with the tweets. Words matter,” Biden told CNN.
“The United States has a role in the world that the world has come to expect. I think the president is much too cavalier. And it’s dangerous,” he added.
{mosads}Biden, who was in Washington on Wednesday to escort Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) for his swearing-in ceremony, said Trump must learn to understand that his words have consequences.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said in a New Year’s Day speech that he had a nuclear launch button at his desk, and that the international community would have to accept North Korea’s status as a nuclear-armed nation as a “reality.”
Trump responded on Tuesday morning, saying that additional sanctions on North Korea appeared to be having an effect after Kim indicated he’d be open to talks with South Korea.
But then on Tuesday night, Trump tweeted that he also has a nuclear launch button on his desk that is “much bigger” and “more powerful” — and that his button actually “works.”
Biden has been coy about a possible White House bid in 2020, recently saying he “may very well do it.”
On Wednesday, he told CNN that the decision is “much more complicated” than just whether he thinks Trump should be president.
