Base that houses Walter Reed hospital under lockdown after bomb threat

The Navy base that houses Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md., is under lockdown after a bomb threat was called in by an anonymous source on Wednesday.

Naval Support Activity Bethesda base’s Twitter account announced Wednesday morning there was a bomb and shooter threat and that all personnel should get to the nearest building to undergo lockdown.

The bomb threat came from an anonymous source who called the facility.

“WRNMMC’s emergency response teams are currently investigating a potential threat or hazard in or around our facility. Out of an abundance of caution, entry points have been secured and all gates to the NSAB installation have been closed,” the hospital said.

The account later indicated there was no active shooter, but an investigation into the bomb threat is still underway.

K-9 units are currently clearing buildings.

Walter Reed Hospital, where presidents and military personnel are treated, announced on their Twitter all appointments were canceled today due to the lockdown.

The Hill has reached out to Walter Reed hospital for comment.
