Kayleigh McEnany turned over text messages to Jan. 6 panel: report

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has turned over text messages to the House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, according to reporting from ABC News.

McEnany, who sat down with the committee’s investigators earlier this month, was subpoenaed for both testimony and documents in November.

The report comes after the committee released a number of texts from McEnany, in addition to other public correspondence. 

A letter asking Ivanka Trump to sit down with the committee disclosed McEnany’s responses to texts from Fox News host Sean Hannity laying out a five-point plan for responding to the Jan. 6 fallout.

McEnany reportedly responded “Love that. Thank you. That is the playbook. I will help reinforce…,” though it is unclear what else she may have said.

In another partial exchange relayed by the committee, Hannity said it was “key” to keep former President Trump away from certain people, writing, “No more crazy people,” to which McEnany responded, “Yes, 100%.”

McEnany was subpoenaed alongside former Trump aide Stephen Miller and other White House employees, with her summons largely focused on false statements she made promoting baseless claims of voter fraud.

“As a White House Press Secretary you made multiple public statements from the White House and elsewhere about purported fraud in the November 2020 election, which individuals who attacked the U.S. Capitol echoed on Jan. 6,” the committee wrote in its subpoena.

McEnany was with Trump as he made his way to give his speech on the Ellipse ahead of the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally and also was reportedly with the then-president at times as he watched the attack unfold on TV.
