AT&T exec commends Google-Verizon proposal
His remarks on the Google-Verizon agreement echo what the
company said after the Google-Verizon agreement was announced.
“We’re not a party to this agreement, but will examine it
closely. We remain committed to achieving a consensus solution to the
net-neutrality issue, either with the FCC or with the Congress. In that sense,
the Verizon-Google agreement demonstrates that it is possible to bridge
differences on this issue,” said Claudia Jones, AT&T vice president of
public affairs and media relations.
Verizon and Google proposed
a policy framework on Monday for enforcing net-neutrality rules. Their
agreement would give the FCC a limited amount of authority to penalize access
providers who breach a non-discrimination rule, designed to prevent phone and cable companies from speeding up certain traffic that runs over their wireline networks.
