Firing up the base no justification for net neutrality, May says
May argues that the net neutrality issue should be decided “based on technical, economic, and marketplace expertise.” He warns that net-neutrality activists such as Public Knowledge and Free Press, who push for stronger regulations, have politicized the issue.
Public Knowledge legal director Harold Feld said in a blog post last week that the FCC should reject a possible industry agreement from the ITI talks. “That would fire up the base in time for election. It would prove that Democrats actually will stand up for their principles in the face of mammoth industry pressure and fight for a clear win,” he said.
President Obama told voters he would support net-neutrality policies during the campaign, but now companies and think tankers on two sides of the issue are at odds on what kind of rule would allow him to declare he met that promise.
