Former FCC senior adviser opens consulting practice

Crowell worked on the Hill for more than two decades, serving as Rep. Edward Markey’s (D-Mass.) top telecom staffer as the congressman played a lead role in overhauling communications law in the early ’90s. Crowell was at the FCC as the agency strategized over net neutrality and developed the National Broadband Plan.

He would be a hot ticket for a post at a D.C. firm or in the government-relations division of a major technology company, especially after the chairmen of key Congressional committees announced this year that they want to begin updating communications laws. Crowell said he decided to do his own thing for personal reasons, including having more schedule flexibility.

Crowell is the husband of Carrie Wofford, who works in the Senate at the Democratic Policy Committee. They live in the Maryland suburbs.
