Groups reiterate Craigslist disapproval
Human-rights groups and anti-trafficking sites pounced as the story developed, urging Craigslist to go a step further and block adult services on their international ad boards. They say Craigslist has facilitated child prostitution by failing to police its adult service section in a perfect way.
Wary of how difficult it would be to filter all online speech, Craigslist advocates have said the site is being unfairly targeted and vilified for a crime everyone agrees is atrocious and which is already illegal.
“The anti-trafficking field is standing with solidarity and unity, and collectively asking you to take down all the Adult and Erotic sections worldwide, completely and permanently,” the groups, 100 of them, said in a letter on Tuesday.
In previous statements, Craigslist has said it is eager to work with law enforcement to get rid of illegal activity on its site.
