WaPo op-ed: Don’t impose net neutrality on NBC-Comcast

“Critics of the Comcast-NBCU merger claim that these mechanisms are ineffective and slow. But the breakdown of the complaint system should not be used as an excuse to impose onerous conditions on one company.”

The Post acknowledged their parent company has interests in the television business including NBC affiliates and Internet businesses. There is no mention of diversity in media ownership or representation, one of areas of criticism around the merger that has gained some traction.

Update: Josh Silver, president of the advocacy group Free Press which opposes the merger sends the following response:

“The biggest irony is that the Post’s endorsement of one of the most damaging media mega-mergers in a generation provides a poignant example of why the Comcast-NBC merger is so dangerous. When media companies control too much, their own interests – and opinions – directly conflict with the public’s need for sound policy and diverse, independent, critical viewpoints.”
