Obama told a joint session of Indian Parliament on Monday that technology would be key to a new strategic partnership between the two countries, which he called one of the defining relationships of the 21st century. The focus on increasing sales of American goods in India also balances rising protectionist concerns in the U.S. regarding the outsourcing of jobs to India.
Iconic American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson announced last week it will begin building motorcycles in India as part of an effort to create a greater presence in that country. With almost a billion residents and largely substandard public transportation, India is one of the world’s largest markets for motorcycles, which are often used as a family vehicle in urban areas.
