CEA chief: Broadcasters ‘terrify’ Capitol Hill
Shapiro said some major cities are already on the verge of a spectrum crisis, referring to dropped calls and the flood of Netflix and YouTube video traveling over wireless connections.
He advocated strongly for spectrum auctions, which would offer incentives to broadcasters to move off the airwaves. The goal is to devote more spectrum to mobile broadband; however, the FCC needs Congress to greenlight the plan before it can move forward.
Shapiro predicted that will happen during this session of Congress.
“It is bipartisan; it will be bipartisan. I think it’s a question of making it a national priority,” he said.
