Dems want to amend anti-net neutrality resolution
“This bill would accomplish the same policy as [the resolution], but it would not preclude us from offering and debating amendments, thus remaining consistent with the traditions of open debate that are a hallmark of our committee,” the letter said.
Democrats believe the resolution is too blunt an instrument for net neutrality because it would repeal the rules entirely. Democratic staffers said in a memo that there is agreement on some parts of the rules.
Amendments offered by Democrats could seek to uphold the least controversial aspects of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) regulations, such as transparency standards, although Republicans haven’t indicated any enthusiasm about salvaging aspects of the FCC effort.
Democrats are also concerned that a resolution of disapproval would prevent the FCC from presenting a modified version of the rules.
Republicans say that adding amendments to the resolution would defeat the goal of passing expedited legislation.
