Tech, recording, wireless companies endorse Eshoo/Issa resolution

But the chip proposal was quickly panned by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and wireless companies and failed to gain traction on Capitol Hill.

The RIAA joined CEA and wireless firms on Monday in endorsing the Issa/Eshoo resolution, which pans the chip mandate proposal and supports new fees for recording artists. 

Gary Shapiro, president of CEA, said a chip mandate “makes as much sense as requiring [device makers] to include a telegraph.”

Mitch Bainwol, chief executive of RIAA, said he welcomes “the concept of policies that reward technical and creative innovation.”
