Minority advocacy groups want FCC to end blackouts

The filing deems the broadcaster’s suggestion of giving consumers additional notice of potential blackouts insufficient.
“A ‘notice only’ solution would not solve the fundamental problem of blackouts, and in fact, could make the situation worse by injecting more uncertainty and confusion,” the groups state.
“Paying customers deserve a more courteous, respectful, and results- driven approach, not one that magnifies uncertainty and thrusts them as pawns into these contentious negotiations.”
The groups ask the FCC to require broadcasters and TV providers to maintain programming regardless of the status of their negotiations, citing the Commission’s sweeping public interest authority over broadcasting.”
