Hacker behind AT&T iPad breach pleads guilty
{mosads}“Hacks have serious implications – from the personal devastation of a stolen identity to danger to our national security. In the wake of other recent hacking attacks by loose-knit organizations like Anonymous and LulzSec, Daniel Spitler’s guilty plea is a timely reminder of the consequences of treating criminal activity as a competitive sport.”
Spitler and co-defendant Andrew Auernheimer, who was arrested Jan. 18, provided the stolen addresses to Gawker, which published an article revealing that Diane Sawyer, Harvey Weinstein, Michael Bloomberg and Rahm Emanuel were among those whose email addresses had been compromised.
The attack also raised concerns from the Federal Communications Commission and was part of a recent wave of cyberattacks that have raised the urgency surrounding the debate over comprehensive cybersecurity legislation.
