App downloads top 1 billion per week

{mosads}Wireless trade group CTIA trumpeted the data in a blog post on Thursday. 

“This outsized position results directly from what we’ve termed the ‘virtuous cycle’ in the mobile ecosystem, in which innovation in mobile broadband networks, services, devices, operating systems and applications drives further growth, which creates even more innovation,” Scott Bergmann, CTIA’s assistant vice president of regulatory affairs, wrote.

“Spectrum, of course, is a key element.”

CTIA is pushing Congress to allocate more airwave frequencies, or spectrum, for mobile devices. They argue they need more airwaves to meet the growing popularity of smartphones and tablet computers.
