Comcast launches minority-owned channels to meet regulatory commitments

{mosads}Johnson will lead Comcast’s Aspire network, which will “celebrate the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African American Community.” The channel will feature movies, documentaries, short films, music and comedies, and will launch this summer.

REVOLT, proposed by Combs, is “inspired by music and pop culture with social media interaction for music artists and fans.” The channel will launch next year.

Comcast also announced El Rey, a channel proposed by director Robert Rodriguez that will feature action movies and TV shows for Latino and general audiences.

BabyFirst Americas, launching in April, is aimed at young children and their parents.

“With today’s announcement of these first four networks, we are already ahead of schedule in fulfilling the independent programming commitments,” Comcast executive vice president David Cohen wrote in a blog post

Combs also heavily promoted the news on his Twitter account, counting down until the announcement.
