Interpol arrests alleged Anonymous hackers
Police officers arrested 25 alleged members of hacker activist group Anonymous on Tuesday in a coordinated crackdown in 15 cities across South America and Europe.
International police force Interpol led the investigation, code-named “Operation Unmask.”
{mosads}The individuals are accused of attacking the Colombian Ministry of Defense and presidential websites, as well as websites of a Chilean electrical company and Chile’s national library.
Police officers seized computers and phones during the arrests in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain.
The suspects, aged 17 to 40, face up to five years in prison, according to The Associated Press.
Later on Tuesday, Anonymous claimed to have crashed Interpol’s website in retaliation for the arrests.
