CDT bulks up, nabs ACLU lobbyist

The Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) is adding two big names to its roster.

The digital civil liberties advocacy group announced on Monday that Lisa Hayes, who most recently was the vice president for development and senior counsel at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, is joining as the CDT’s new vice president of programs and strategy.

{mosads}“At CDT, she will work across the organization to improve internal operations and strategic positioning, produce impactful events, identify development opportunities, and facilitate external relations,” Communications Director Brian Wesolowski wrote in a blog post. 

The group also hired Chris Calabrese, an American Civil Liberties Union lobbyist who has been active on privacy and technology issues, including a push to get Congress to update the 1986 law that allows authorities to obtain people’s emails without a warrant. 

Calabrese starts next Monday and will join as senior policy director.

The CDT has gone through some major changes over the last year, since former President Leslie Harris stepped down and was replaced by Nuala O’Connor, a former Amazon executive who served as the Homeland Security Department’s first chief privacy officer.
