Kardashian corrects Instagram post to comply with FDA

Kim Kardashian’s endorsement of a morning sickness drug on Instagram now comes with a lengthy warning statement.

Weeks after Kardashian pulled a previous endorsement from the social media site because it did not comply with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the reality star put up a new post to comply with federal guidelines.

“I guess you saw the attention my last #morningsickness post received,” Kardashian wrote next to a picture of her holding up a bottle of Diclegis.

“The FDA has told Duchesnay, Inc., that my last post about Diclegis (doxylamine succinate and pyridoxine HCl) was incomplete because it did not include any risk information or important limitations of use for Diclegis,” she added.

In early August, The FDA sent a letter to the maker of the drug — Duchesnay USA — warning it that it faced seizure or an injunction if Kardashian did not issue a correction, using the same medium as the prior endorsement.

Kardashian deleted that post from Instagram. It had included a link to the drug manufacturer’s website that contained risk information, but that did not comply with FDA guidelines.

The post now warns that patients should not drink alcohol, use certain pain medications or breastfeed while using the drug, among other things.

The correction came more than 20 days after the FDA sent the initial letter to the drug company. It also came on the same night as the MTV Video Music Awards.

The corrected post had received more than 351,000 likes by Monday morning. Kardashian has 44.7 million followers on the platform.
