Uber adds Arianna Huffington to board

Arianna Huffington will join Uber’s board of directors, the company announced on Wednesday.

CEO Travis Kalanick announced the move in a blog post, saying she could bring a much-needed skillset to the company.

{mosads}Kalanick said the Huffington’s ability as a storyteller “is invaluable for an engineer like me, whose natural tendency is to rely on data.”

“As I’ve discovered, that doesn’t always work perfectly,” he said. “I’m confident she will bring some ethos and pathos to our Uber logos.”

Huffington is the editor-in-chief of an eponymous news site, The Huffington Post, and the author of several books.

Though she came to prominence largely in political circles, her more recent books have focused on the importance of sleep. She and Kalanick announced earlier this month that Uber would partner with the Huffington Post, as well as Toyota, to promote the dangers of drowsy driving.

Many of Uber’s other board members are reportedly Silicon Valley players, like Google executive David Drummond and venture capitalist Bill Gurley, but this isn’t the first time the company has drawn on somebody with a strong footing in the world of politics. It added David Plouffe, the operative who ran President Obama’s first presidential campaign, to the board last year.
