Consumer commission urges Samsung users to not charge phones
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging owners of a popular Samsung smartphone to “stop charging or using the device.”
In a statement Friday, the CPSC warned of fires that had been occurring as a result of the Galaxy Note 7’s battery. They also said they were working with Samsung to issue an official product recall as soon as possible.
Samsung had previously issued its own recall for the phone on Sept. 2.
Samsung has said that it was aware of 35 fires resulting from the Note 7. On Thursday, a car caught fire as a result of the defect.
The Federal Aviation Administration had already advised passengers on Thursday to not bring the phone aboard flights.
