Ex-FTC chief Leibowitz heads to law firm

{mosads}During his tenure at the FTC, the agency won several major battles, including prominent settlements with Google, Facebook and other Web companies for failing to follow their own privacy guidelines. Leibowitz also oversaw a “major revision” to the Justice Department’s guidelines for horizontal mergers, the firm notes, and helped draft bilateral agreements with the competition authorities of China, India and Russia.

“We simply could not have found a better fit for us and our clients,” said the firm’s managing partner, Thomas J. Reid, of Leibowitz. “With the addition of Jon, we strengthen our commitment to ensuring that our Washington office is a destination for solving complex antitrust and merger clearance issues.”

Before working at the FTC, Leibowitz served various roles on the Senate Judiciary Committee, including as a chief counsel to the Antitrust and Technology Subcommittees. Prior to that, he was a lobbyist for the Motion Picture Association of America.

Other former regulators and senior government officials have also joined Davis Polk’s Washington office including Susan Ervin, the former deputy director of a department within the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; Annette Nazareth, a former commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Michael Sohn, a former general counsel for the FTC; Linda Chatman Thomsen, an enforcement director at the SEC; and two White House officials, Raul Yanes and Kimberley Harris.
