FCC pick backs Obama’s plan to expand Internet in schools

{mosads}Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) said that expanding the program is one of his top goals for the FCC, along with ensuring a successful auction of broadcast TV frequencies to provide enough funding for a nationwide public safety broadband network.

“Updating the E-Rate program to meet the needs of the 21st century is necessary for our children and national competitiveness,” Rockefeller said. 

“When 80 percent of the E-Rate schools say they’re not getting the proper bandwidth for their instructional needs, something needs to be done,” Wheeler agreed.
