FTC reviews Google’s purchase of Waze
{mosads}Companies are required to notify the government before closing most major transactions, but Waze’s annual revenue was too low to trigger the automatic review.
Waze, which relies on its network of millions of users to gather traffic data, reportedly also drew the interest of Facebook, Microsoft and Apple.
The FTC is tasked with blocking deals that “substantially” harm competition. It would be unusual for the government to force a company to nullify a merger after it has already been completed.
The FTC closed a sweeping antitrust investigation into Google’s search practices earlier this year.
