WikiLeaks floats creating database of Twitter users’ personal data

WikiLeaks is considering creating an “online database” with the personal information of all verified Twitter users, according to a social media account linked to the group.

“We are thinking of making an online database with all ‘verified’ twitter accounts & their family/job/financial/housing relationships,” the WikiLeaks Task Force account tweeted.

“We are looking for clear discrete (father/shareholding/party membership) variables that can be put into our AI software. Other suggestions?”

Verified Twitter accounts display a blue icon and are intended to show that the person tweeting from the account is authentic.

The Wikileaks proposal was met with instant derision on social media, with many blasting the group for wanting to disclose the personal information of hundreds of thousands of people.

WikiLeaks has been criticized in the past for disclosing personal information in the documents it publishes.

When it released stolen emails from the Democratic National Committee last year, dozens of people’s Social Security numbers and credit card information were published, according to The Associated Press.
