Trade agency bans certain Samsung devices

{mosads}He will have 60 days to decide whether to issue a similar reprieve for Samsung. But unlike the ruling against Apple, Friday’s decision did not cover patents on technologies that companies agreed to use as industry-wide standards.

In a statement, Samsung said it was “disappointed” by the exclusion order but that it was pleased that “Apple has been stopped from trying to use its overbroad design patents to achieve a monopoly on rectangles and rounded corners.”

“The proper focus for the smartphone industry is not a global war in the courts, but fair competition in the marketplace,” the company said. “Samsung will continue to launch many innovative products and we have already taken measures to ensure that all of our products will continue to be available in the United States.”

Apple did not respond to a request to comment.
