Google executives create crisis fund to help refugees: report

Google executives have created a $4 million crisis fund to support organizations helping those affected by President Trump’s executive order blocking refugees and people from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States, USA Today reported.

Company leaders are matching employee donations to the fund up to $2 million, with proceeds going to the American Civil Liberties Union, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, International Rescue Committee and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The announcement came in a company-wide memo sent by Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, and obtained by USA Today.

Silicon Valley leaders have voiced objections to Trump’s actions.

Google CEO Sergey Brin, whose family fled the Soviet Union due to religious persecution, participated in a protest against the bans this weekend at San Francisco International Airport.
