Longtime Google CEO: Trump team ‘going to do these evil things’

The executive chairman of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, told employees last week that President Trump’s White House will do “evil things” to push its economic growth agenda.

Eric Schmidt, who was previously Google’s CEO, made the statement during a weekly meeting at the company’s headquarters, according to a transcript of the comments obtained by BuzzFeed News.

“And so I think at the end of the day, they are going to do these evil things as they’ve done in the immigration area and perhaps some others, but the core focus is going to be to get the growth rate in the country — which is roughly one and a half to two percent — up another point by simply pushing through increases in federal spending and overcoming the tea party.”

{mosads}Schmidt was among multiple technology executives who met with the president at Trump Tower in New York during the transition period.

Google created a $4 million crisis fund over the weekend after Trump signed an executive order imposing a 90-day ban on nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the U.S. The order also includes a 120-day ban on admitting refugees and an indefinite halt on admitting refugees form Syria.

A spokesperson for the company declined to comment to BuzzFeed.

“Don’t be evil” was Google’s unofficial slogan during its early years as a startup in Silicon Valley.
