Blackburn to introduce mobile health bill

{mosads}There are 97,000 health-related mobile apps in the Apple App store, and health providers and patients are turning to mobile devices more and more, Blackburn said, speaking at a Telecommunications Industry Association event.

The bill “will provide the [Food and Drug Administration] with the tools it needs to effectively protect consumers from the high-risk technologies” without subjecting lower-risk technologies to unnecessary oversight, she said.

That way, lower-risk technologies can “continue to be innovated upon without being caught in that massive web of expense and time that is the FDA approval process,” Blackburn said.

Blackburn said her bill “will encourage the development of new technologies to improve healthcare … and create new jobs.”
