LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman railed against President Donald Trump on Wednesday, saying Trump is a worse president than he had anticipated.
“By trying to kind of elevate his own TV ratings through America-first ideology, he’s breaking our alliances and global leadership,” Hoffman said during a CNBC segment.
“It’s everything from not signing the [Trans-Pacific Partnership] to what you saw in the most recent European trip — which is — it’s unprecedented in the post-World War II era to have the leader of Germany say, ‘We can’t rely on America anymore.’”
{mosads}Hoffman announced earlier in the week a $30 million investment in Change.org, an online petition site aimed at facilitating digital advocacy and activism.
He didn’t specify Trump’s administration as an impetus for the move, though some have speculated that the climate the president has created may have played a part in the founder’s decision.
Hoffman has been ardently opposed Trump, at one point during the campaign offering the Republican candidate $5 million to release his tax returns.
During his interview on CNBC, Hoffman also spoke out against fake news, joining the ranks of the major technology CEOs such as Apple’s Tim Cook in drawing attention to the issue.
“I think it’s a serious problem given that we try in a democracy to have a discourse about what we should invest in as a government, what are real issues, what should our leaders be held accountable to,” Hoffman said.
“But I think it is a problem that we can tune and get better in. Just because you can’t get it perfect, doesn’t mean you don’t get it better.”
