Twitter introduces new ‘safeguards’ after Trump’s account briefly disabled

Twitter said Friday that it had implemented new safeguards to prevent President Trump’s personal account from being disabled again after the account briefly went dark the night before.

The San Francisco-based firm said it would not specify what the new safeguards are, however, citing security concerns after a reported contract worker briefly disabled Trump’s account.

“We won’t be able to share all details about our internal investigation or updates to our security measures, but we take this seriously and our teams are on it,” the company wrote in a tweet.

Twitter has been internally investigating how Trump’s infamous account went offline for 11 minutes on Thursday night.

The company has said that an employee with the ability to suspend accounts deleted it from the site on his or her last day at the company. The worker was reportedly a contractor, and not directly employed by Twitter, The New York Times reported.

Social media erupted with celebration and outrage on either side of the political spectrum when Trump’s account suddenly disappeared from the site on Thursday night. Users on the platform also noted that the incident raises concerns about the firm’s ability protect the account’s security.

“My Twitter account was taken down for 11 minutes by a rogue employee. I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact,” Trump tweeted on Friday.
