Snapchat to push content outside of app
Snapchat will reportedly begin to push content outside of its own platform in an attempt to address its stagnant user growth.
The new product, reported by Cheddar, is called “Stories Everywhere” and will display Snapchat’s content on the web and outside of the Snapchat app.
Snapchat’s parent firm, Snap, has hired Rahul Chopra, the former senior vice president and global head of video at News Corp., to spearhead the effort.
{mosads}Other major social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram allow users to post embeddable content on other websites, apps and social media platforms.
Stories Everywhere is reportedly still in the early stages of development, and Snap has not yet made decisions on how exactly it will allow its content to be distributed across the internet. The company is also weighing making its content available on other apps as well.
The new product comes after Snap’s stock has taken significant hits over the past year, with analysts criticizing the firm for not generating expected user growth. It’s stock has not been above its initial public offering price of $17 a share since July.
