Gmail, YouTube unavailable temporarily in global outage

Google’s Gmail, YouTube and other services were temporarily unavailable Monday morning with widespread outages reported.

Users received the following error message when attempting to log into their Google accounts: “We’re sorry, but your account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes. You can view the G Suite Status Dashboard for the current status of the service.”

Outage maps on the website DownDetector indicated outages across the globe for Gmail and for YouTube.

Google search was not affected.

Google said in an update on its public status dashboard at 6:55 a.m. that it was “aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a majority of users.”

It said in another update at 7:52 a.m. that the problem should be resolved for a “vast majority” of affected users.

“Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better,” it added.
