Twitter testing ads on Fleets

Twitter is testing ads on its temporary story feature Fleets, the company said Tuesday.

“Fleet ads are full-screen billboards for advertisers,” Twitter said in a blog post

The ads will be the first full-screen, vertical ads on Twitter and are similar to the ads users see in stories on Instagram or Snapchat.

The update comes after Twitter launched Fleets globally in November, following updates from other social media platforms that launched 24-hour story features.

Twitter earlier this year announced a goal of doubling its revenue by the end of 2023.

Along with the addition of ads in Fleets, the company has rolled out options for some paid content on the platform.

Last week, Twitter confirmed it will start rolling out ticketed options for its audio room feature Spaces for some users. The company would collect a portion of the revenue from the ticketed events.

The platform last month also rolled out a Tip Jar feature for users to pay others. Twitter said it will not take a cut from the tips sent to users.
