Google deputy counsel to testify on cybersecurity

Separately, China’s Internet policy will be examined next week by the Congressional-Executive Commission on China led by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.). Their hearing on Feb. 10 is to address free expression and intellecutal property rights protection.

The hearing comes a month after Google threatened to pull out of
China after the company was attacked by hackers trying to obtain the
e-mail addresses of human rights activists. 

Google received support from the Obama administration for threatening to leave China if its government does not ease Internet censorship restrictions. 

Google is one of several flashpoints between the U.S. and Beijing, which have seen tensions rise this year. Besides the battle over Google, Beijing has been irritated with the U.S. over President Barack Obama’s meeting in February with the Dalai Lama, and a U.S. arms sale to Taiwan.
