Atlanta also gets Cuba flights

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has become the fifth in the nation to be approved to offer flights to and from Cuba, airport officials announced Tuesday. 
 
Hartsfield-Jackson, currently the world’s busiest airport, Tampa International Airport (TPA), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Miami International Airport (MIA) are the only airports with charter flights to the island, which had been a banned destination for almost 50 years.
 
President Obama recently relaxed those travel restrictions, allowing passengers with close relatives on the island or traveling for educational or religious purposes to go. 

{mosads}The U.S. Customs and Border Protection approved Atlanta’s application for Cuba flights Tuesday.
 
“The president and his administration deserve many thanks for allowing more points of entry into Cuba,” Hartsfield-Jackson General Manager Louis Miller said in a statement. “As Hartsfield-Jackson is the largest hub in the United States, this new service will allow tens of thousands of Cuban Americans across the country to easily reunite with their friends and families, whom they may not have seen for many years.”
 
Atlanta airport officials said flights could begin this summer or early fall.
