Truckers appeal court ruling on cross-border Mexican drivers

{mosads}The Grain Valley, Mo.-based OOIDA said it was requesting a rehearing because the appeals’ court ruling was “contrary to … decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States and the precedents of this circuit.”

The Obama administration has argued since the cross-border trucking program was introduced in 2011 that it would increase the efficiency of cargo shipments between the U.S. and Mexico. 

However, the group argued that the standards for getting a commercial driver’s license in the U.S. were more stringent than Mexico’s. 

“Truckers here face ever-increasing restrictions in the name of safety, while no such expectations are in place in Mexico,” OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer said in a statement announcing the appeal. “To allow access puts jobs at risk and endangers our highways.”
