Sanford gets seat on House Transportation Committee

{mosads}Committee Chairman Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) said he was glad to have Sanford on board the panel.

“I’m looking forward to working with Congressman Sanford on the Transportation Committee as we work to strengthen our Nation’s infrastructure, reform programs, promote economic growth, and ensure that American businesses remain globally competitive,” Shuster said in a statement.

Sanford was elected to the House in a special election last month to fill the seat that was vacated by the appointment of then-Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C) to the state’s open Senate seat.

Sanford was governor of South Carolina from 2003 until 2011. During his time in office, it was discovered that he used state funds in 2009 to visit an Argentine woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair.

Sanford was thought to be vulnerable in his race for the House seat he eventually won this year because of the affair.
