Endeavour launch pushed back to May 16

NASA said it would hold a news conference Monday to discuss the work on the shuttle. The problem with the spacecraft was said to involve its electrical system.

Giffords, who is still recovering from a gunshot wound, and President Obama were in Florida to attend the April 29 launch. Obama kept his schedule visit to the Kennedy Space Center last week, using the trip to tour the facility and meet with Giffords and Kelly.

Giffords’ office has said she will attend the launch when the space shuttle is ready for takeoff. The White House has not said whether Obama will go back for the launch.

While waiting for the new launch date, Giffords returned to Houston to continue her rehabilitation.
